WALK AGAINST HUNGER:
May 2019 CALENDAR (download
Many thanks to all of you who worked on team formations and raising funds for Loaves and Fishes in this year's Walk Against Hunger, held on Saturday, April 27th. We hope that you were able to come join us! We currently know of teams formed for us at: Bloomfield Congregational, CB Richard Ellis, 1st Baptist WH, 1st Church West Hartford, Immanuel Congregational Church, Kingswood Oxford School, Kol Haverim, Loaves and Fishes Board & Staff, St. James West Hartford, The Hartford, and Westminster Presbyterian. There are also a number of individuals who have formed teams for us. Great thanks to all of these groups for their organization and support! We need every one of you! As soon as results begin to come in, we will let you know how we did in 2019.
Volunteer of the Month:
ALL of you! We would like to recognize ALL of our wonderful volunteers for your incredible flexibility in dealing with what comes up on a typical day here at Loaves and Fishes Ministries. Our contacts for teams are sometimes faced with snow and ice in the winter that make travel unsafe and so food service difficult to impossible-but like Ellen Solomon for Temple Beth El-still manage to deliver their food to our facility for our use. Due to poor drainage around our facility we at times must deal with flooding of our dining room and hallway-but like Cassandra Burney at VOYA-our contacts always get the word to their teams and often offer help with making sandwiches and handing out bag lunches on those very wet days. No matter what challenge arises, you are all, always, ready to meet it with a smile and with energy and with appreciation for our program. We simply could not complete our mission without each and every one of you.
We also value all of our volunteers for the continued friendly manner in which you conduct all of your interactions with our clients. Volunteers are patient and polite to clients, and make them feel at home in our dining room. Everyone should feel welcome in the dining room, and they do. Please continue to be mindful of the conversations that you have amongst each other and be sure that they are appropriate for the setting.
If you think you may be short on
volunteers for your day, please call us 48 hours in advance (if possible) so
we can find extra help. (524-1730)
